Oh no, Firefox crashed! Maybe Old Spice guy can give him some pointers

I'm sure all of you have seen the Old Spice viral videos by now. They were insane! The remix at the bottom is really funny to top it all off, lol.

Which came first? The barrel monster or the Star Wars My Little Pony?

Oi, so that still ends up being a lot of links. See what happens when I try to be selective? You still get tons of links. This is why I post them one at a time and never seem to run out. In fact, my supply has been overflowing for years now, so hmm....

Windows vs. Mac meets IE vs. Firefox

No, that's not the whole thing. Click here for the comic. Hehe, so awesome! You guys know that I love Firefox anyway, so this made me giggle even more.

(His intro post about it here.)

Christmas Spirit the Firefox Way

As Christmas approaches, I don't want to forget to post this. You should know by now that I adore firefox. Well Dave passed this along to me and I couldn't help but want to pass it on. Here's the main link so you can see and use the full version....think "desktop picture," hehe. And oh yeah, Merry Christmas. ;-)

(As for why my blog seems rather slow with posting right now, it's because I've been doing more behind-the-scenes type work. For example, my labels have been turned into a tag cloud thanks to this site. And I've been hanging out a bit more at a few different forums and blog sites than I usually do, hoping to do a little networking (read--socializing because it's fun). No worries...I still have plenty of quirky content to throw your way. Be ready to catch!)

More Blogaversary Fun Part II--Visitor Facts

Hey, my blog birthday/anniversary only comes once a year, so I might as well use the time to see how it went this last year. Here are some facts about the people who visited Quirky:

  • Depending on which site I check, there were approximately 4000 'different' people who clicked in. (The highest quote was for 6100 different people, so who knows?)
  • 51% of those were Firefox users. Woohoo Firefox!!
  • 1 visitor used the browser "gzip" which I've never heard of, heh.
  • 9 unlikely visitors were actually still on dial-up. I wasn't even sure if that was still around. I'm sorry for all the graphics that probably lagged up this minority like crazy, lol.
  • 1% of the visits were made by users with Linux, and almost 8% from Mac users. I'll never understand Mac users, but I love the quirky ads they put out and the strange loyalty is almost worth investigation. 4100 visitors were using Windows XP. Yes, that's more than the 4k unique visitors quoted in the first one, but the stats were from different places and I took the lower number for the visitors, lol. There's no way of knowing who to believe!
  • 3 visits were made on a computer running only 8-bit color. Um, which 8 colors are those? :P
  • Over a third of people's resolutions are set for 1024x768, but there were actually 6% who were using 800x600.
  • An overwhelming amount of visitors were from the United States. I'm not feeling much foreign love. :(
Okay, I think I'm done with the stat exploring, hehe.

15 Cool Firefox Tricks

If you've been reading here for a while, you'll know that I'm a big fan of Firefox (um, 'firefox' has its own tag in my list of labels, heh). For other Firefox users out there (or those that are considering converting to the better side :P), here are a few cool things that you can modify to make Firefox better suit your needs. There are 'tons' of lists like this out there, but most talk about all the add-ons you can choose from and which ones are coolest. This link talks more about things you can change to help pages load quicker, increase your screen space, and how to use short cut keys to make your experience even better.

Firefoxfacts.com

Now it's no secret that I like firefox much better than IE....but I recently discovered firefoxfacts.com and even though I haven't had a chance to look through all of it, I'm in love. It has posts about all the little features users might not otherwise discover on their own. Mucho gusto! *drools*

Ah, More Wonders of Firefox

I went home for 3 weeks over the Christmas/New Year holiday.....and by the way, I hope Santa brought you everything you wanted, and that you'll accomplish the rest during the next year on your own. While I was away, I used my mom's computer instead of my laptop because of the hassle of switching internet connections (not as simple as removing the cord and placing it here). When I got home last night, I opened up firefox, restored my last session, and had a lovely 15-20 tabs open (I closed some of them because when my school's connection asked for its password, it wouldn't take me back to the site I had been on, and I obviously didn't remember myself)....and not my regular set of tabs that I glance through several times a day, but rather, tabs that I still needed to decide what to do with, including several to blog. Many of them, I had long forgotten about, but I'm going to give a quick run-down and then I'll be back to actually post about the ones I'm still interested in:

Tabs:

1.

A song that a friend on a forum introduced me to. I couldn't stop listening to it every so often, and I'm still not sure what I want to do with it. It's 8 minutes long, and I may have mentioned it here before, but if you've got the time, go ahead and watch it. (And it doesn't matter that it's in a language you likely can't understand.)

2. Google search for Dr. Seuss' Mulberry Street.

3. My blog.

4. YouTube's video of Papa Don't Preach.....Madonna's, not any remake.

5. Emetophobia Forums. A friend had asked me to check them out and possibly join because she suffers from emetophobia (the fear of vomiting). I, on the other hand, got used to vomiting on a fairly regular basis when I was younger because of various reasons, and it doesn't really bother me. I didn't like it, but there was nothing I could do about it, so I adjusted and then didn't think about it until the problems were fixed. Since it doesn't phase me any, she wanted me to check out the opposite extreme. Again, I'm still not sure what to do with this because there's really no purpose for me joining, but she suggested it, so maybe I should....

6. YouTube's Dear Jessie. This one I'll be back to explain in the next post probably.

7.
8. The link I got ^ that from. http://www.jennifermaestre.com/pencil_show.html She's absolutely amazing.....they're all sculptures made out of just colored pencils. View them up close.

9. http://www.jennifermaestre.com And then I discovered that she had an entire collection using other things like nails and beads in similar type sculptures, so I left that open to post here, too. I was going to do an entire review on her, but I think this is sufficient enough. I just can't imagine how many tips she broke and had to either resharpen or toss out. That's *a lot* or color pencil tips! (And how many tips could she sharpen out of a single pencil? Hmmmm.)

10. http://eagereyes.org/Applications/ZIPScribbleMap.html We'll come back to this one.

11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_Lolita I think I had this one open to discuss on a set of forums, but meh, I don't know now, lol.

12. http://www.sellyourcell.com/default.php Sell your Cell. For those old phones you don't know what to do with, they'll give you a few bucks (more, depending on just 'how old' they are....the newer, the better). Seemed neat, but again, it was sorta just sitting there, waiting for me to decide what to do with it.

13. Amazon.com I was reading a review of a book.

14. A picture of me (hehe....I still haven't decided yet if I want any pictures of myself or family here....it's not hard to track me to/from other places that have identifying info connected, but that doesn't mean I want to directly link me/them here. We'll see, I suppose....gotta figure out where I want this blog to go first).

15. A funny, but semi-inappropriate photo. I'll likely be talking about this one again, too.

16. One of my site counter thingys....except I don't use it for counting people, but rather, to look at the 'other' stats it keeps. Fun, fun.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore Firefox, by the way? Had it not saved those for me, there are very few I would have remembered to check back with (there were a couple more on my screen that I closed last night, too, but I took care of those while on break). I like being able to have all those open in a single Firefox window, too, instead of what I used to do with a million pages open.....and it doesn't slow my comp down even in the slightest, so even better! Me gusta, me gusta, me gusta!

Firefox

That's it. I had to download it anyway. I wasn't going to mention anything about it, but as I was checking in over at Lisa's, I noticed that she has a firefox button on her site....and I couldn't resist the urge to copy the coding, add it to my own, and then point it out to everyone. Hehe. You'll now notice a "Take back the web" firefox button like the one above, over on my side bar. Relish in its beauty.

Gah!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Okay guys, so I'm still here. I headed back home last Friday with the intentions of being here for a few weeks....but was immediately swamped and haven't had much time to be here on my blog. To make matters worse, I'm using someone else's computer because my laptop isn't configured for the internet connection they have so I can't just switch cords and be on mine. 'That' means, all of my bookmarks are over there, and I won't be visiting the majority of you for a while. Sad, I know, but it's really quite the pain to have the laptop opened in front of me to copy down all the addresses when I want to visit them. A break won't hurt me anyway, right?
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Ya know what really sucks, though? I have to use IE here. I'm so tempted to download firefox like I did the last Christmas break, but it irritates my mother, so I'm trying to avoid it. I've been here a mere few days, and it's seriously driving me crazy. I didn't realize how many errors and problems IE had until I had been switched over to firefox for so long and tried coming back to IE. Bleck. Really....bleck!

Anywho, on top of the effects that the funky schedule, the loss of bookmark access, and the dreadful IE issues will have on this blog, I feel the need to warn you that this may indeed start to read like a 'mommy blog' for the next few weeks. It's not intentional, but I'll have my girlies the majority of the time, and it's hard not to mention my pride and joys while I'm here. Besides, kids say some of the cutest things, and why should I resist taking advantage of their blog material?

Stay Tuned for Your Previously Scheduled Program

My dear viewers, this one's for you. Okay, so actually, it's for me, I guess, but it's *about* you.

*Pause*

Four commas in one sentence? No, it's not uncommon for me, but geesh, it can still be annoying and noticeable. Comma, comma, comma. Poor things. I guess they enjoy being used, but what if they start feeling abused instead?

*Unpause*So right, yes, I have viewers. You may or may not be one of the regulars, but it doesn't make much difference to me. I didn't expect to have this many people even occasionally stopping by, much less this many regulars after only a month (read-I didn't expect many viewers *ever*). Most of the driveby viewers completely randomly get here by clicking links on someone else's blog or using one of two 'randomizers.' Only a few of you are people I actually know, at this point, so that's kinda cool.

But what makes any of it worthy of blogging? Those few people who have gotten here through search results. I mentioned early on how my Gangbanged Duck rape post was going to get random sexual searchers like my NYC naked cowboy post from my summer Xanga account did. Surprisingly enough, I haven't gotten anyone who's searched for that stuff, so again, that's kinda cool.
Is there a point? Yes, I'm glad you asked! :P I want to mention those few lone searchers that stumbled here, completely unaware of what they were getting into, and whose searches stood out enough for me to....well, mention.

The first one caught me off guard because it could've been so incredibly personal. As my About Me section says, I want to keep this completely public and if I wouldn't want my mother reading it, I wouldn't post it. That doesn't mean I actually expect certain people to ever stumble across this. So to my surprise, when someone somehow got here after searching for details about an accident that happened in my birth town, I was a bit caught off guard.

For you to understand a bit more, you'll need to know that I've moved around quite a bit, that I only lived there for a year or two after birth, and that it's a rather small, secluded town that no one's ever heard of. It's one of those no name places out in the boondocks that if a person gets out, they don't go back unless they have to, and they certainly don't mention the name ever again. I obviously haven't posted the name myself, but because it's a two part name, one of my long posts just happened to have had both parts in it....and it had the date they were looking for. It brought back a sudden whiff of nostalgia I didn't know I had, lol. It's obviously no one I know, but what a coincidence (do you believe those exist?) that something so secluded and random brought them here!No worries, the next two take far less description and are slightly more fun to look at, hehe.

"what does jessi want for christmas" I mean, who searches for that?? I want to know who Jessi is, and why on earth she'd publish her christmas wish list online without giving a direct link to those she wants to view it. I could put the blame on the searcher, though, and go into possible details that I really want to mention here, lol.So me, being who I am, curious in nature and quirky in presentation, went and searched for this. Low and behold, there I am, with the very first page being a link to my post about Christmas shopping rules. At first I thought, that's definitely not what he/she was looking for, but then again, I did have a picture of a crotchless underwear posted, so maybe that 'is' what he/she wanted after all. Granted, if that's the case, he/she would probably want them to be modeled instead, but hey, if it's my wish list, I have to have them in hand before I can model, right?
The last one that I'll mention for now (because once again, it's 4am when I'm posting....my best excuse for not doing something more productive is that my lights are off and it's not the greatest idea to be writing articles at this time....so I write blog entries instead), is

"firefox bookmark bar" double
And yes, there's a reason I put it on a separate line instead of merely quoting it like I did in the last one. Notice that this guy (instead of using he/she, we're going to break a major rule here and assume, for the sake of simplicity, that it's a male) is a bit more savvy with his searches. He's taken the time to quote a specific portion of his search desire and add yet another modifier at the end. The problem, though, is that the fourth result down is my post about double decker knuckle tattoos, lol. Poor thing. He was off searching for a way to have his firefox bookmark bar on two rows (and yeah, I'm assuming this, but considering I recently desired the same thing, I feel his pain and know this was likely his intent....awwww.....it's a match made in, uh, google searches!) and instead, he got random pics of people who like tattooing their fingers. I almost feel bad for the guy....but then my mind is off and running again, thinking about other randomness....randomness, that although perfectly random and bloggable (it claims that's not a word, but I beg to differ), doesn't belong randomly blogged in this random blog, because it really wants to be in a completely separate random blog entry. Hehe...

Oh right, and before I forget, a shout out for all you blocked referrers who have "internet security software or browser settings set to the term "blockedReferrer" or "hiddenReferrer", rather than the true referring URL information." It's not like I can find out anything about you anyway, but geesh, I just wanna know how you got here! Lol.
