I'm posting mostly over at Quirky Cookery right now, where I play with my food and teach you to have fun with it, too. Come check me out?

All the leftover (Mario) game stuff

Alright, it's the last day of NaBloPoMo and that means it's the thirtieth day in a row that I've posted about gaming-related things. I had several more things sitting in tabs that I could've posted, but I didn't, so I'm doing a sort of leftover post. Think of it as the weekend after Thanksgiving, but instead of getting sick of turkey, I'm going to make you sick of Mario. :P

Space Invaders ice cube tray

For the record, I think that's the only non-Mario piece in this post, so stop scrolling now if you hate Mario. Or just hate me linking to him this month. :P

Graffiti

Pixelated bedset named "Supermario"

1-UP license plate

Mario theme song played on Stepper Motors with an Arduino (technical geeks ftw, wee)

Slightly inappropriate picture

This one doesn't exactly fit with the appropriateness of this blog, so if you want to see, you'll have to click.

Mario soda

Most adorable Halloween outfit duo ever

Alright guys, that's it for now. Thanks for sticking with me, hehe.

Top 10 weirdest sports

Whoa. They were right. I hadn't heard of most of these sports before.

Here's the run down of the competitive sports/games they featured in this post, but you'll have to go over there to see the example video for each one.
  • Ladder racing
  • 4WD dune climbing
  • Chess boxing
  • Wife carrying
  • Cheese rolling
  • Camel wrestling
  • CycloCross
  • Tow-in surfing
  • Free soloing
  • Bog snorkeling

Gaming fashion....because sometimes, you have to go outside

Gaming rocks. Going outside into the big bad world....not so cool.

But when you have to go out, why not take your gaming buddies with you? No, I'm not talking about the friends that show up at your house to play Guitar Hero with you, or the MMO avatars that help you slaughter things across the web. We're talking the in-game PacMans, Tetris blocks, etc.

Video game scarves

I have definite mushroom envy going on right now. :(

Tetris dress

Retro game ties

Animated Table Tennis Shirt

This one looks best in a dark room, so maybe you shouldn't go out into the bright sunny world afterall.

Baby outfit

Hey, the baby has to go out, too....

Pacman boxers

And if you decide to stay in instead or hey, if you're one of those weirdos who actually has to go to work everyday and game attire doesn't fit with your profession, you can just wear these underneath instead.  Amazon has other gaming boxers, too.

Nintendo controller underwear

Some for the ladies, too.

Sonic the Hedgehog shoes, Street Fighter shoes, Mario shoes

Can't forget to put on shoes! :D

Yoplait winners

The two numbers drawn were 13 and 34.

That means Judy (who I think tweeted every single day from the start of the contest, ha) and ihchicky won. They'll be getting their prize packs soon. :)

Simple PacMan gif.....around and around and around

Many of you are out shopping your butts off at Black Friday sales. Others are entertaining family or in turkey overload still. And then there are the handful that will be online and stumble across my post. Today's game tidbit is really simple. So simple that it doesn't seem worth a post of its own.

Then I snap back to reality and realize that I've gotten caught up in staring at the lovely lights going 'round and 'round for far too long, and can't help but find the hypnotic effect strange. Weeee.....

Turkey sings adorable "I Will Survive" rewrite

By far one of the most adorable Thanksgiving-related videos I've seen. You'll love it, too. I found it over on this silly lady's blog and thought it was worthy of an extra post today. ;)

*Sings*

And now you're back, think you're the boss
Wanna put me on a plate
Next to your wife's cranberry sauce

I should have known this day would come
I should have known not to relax
If I thought for just one second
You'd come in here with that ax

Go on now go
Walk out the door
Just turn around now
Ain't choppin' my head to the floor

Weren't you the one
who prized the dark meat on my thighs?
Did ya think I'd gobble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

*Hums while cooking*

Happy Thanksgiving guys!

Turkey bowling for Thanksgiving

So it's Thanksgiving here in the US, but I wanted to stick to the gaming theme for the month. Why not combine both of them into a game of turkey bowling then! Now before the animals rights activists and vegetarians crawl out of the woodwork on this one, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using a plastic bird instead.

For those of you who like lame humor, check out this part of Wikipedia's entry for turkey bowling:
Derrick became a self-appointed commissioner of the "Poultry Bowlers Association" and codified the rules and terminology, such as "the fowl line" (cf. "foul line"), "the gobbler (three strikes in a row; cf. turkey (bowling)), and "the wishbone" (a 7-10 split).

When you reach max level...you stop leveling

Really the only thing gaming-related about this post is the title/caption of the picture when I originally saw it. It still counts. Anyway, looks like Sean Connery really did reach max level 20 years ago...

Modern day gaming tables de-limb Barbie and turn Battleship into a drinking game

See? I told you. Thanks to Toxel (again) for putting together a list of funky game tables. The world's longest Foosball table is there, too, which could let two full soccer teams (22 people) play at once! And another that puts Lego Pirates against the Knights. Actually, now that I look at it, half the list consists of foosball tables, ha. Hope you like foosball!

Pikachu Lady....Gotta catch 'em all

No, seriously. She has them all. PikaBelleChu is a pika-holic who is even in the Guinness Book of World Records for her collection of over 8,000 Pikachu collectibles. She even has one of the officcial Pokemon Pikachu Volkswagen beetle cars which is affectionately named PikaBug.

The Lying Down Game

This one is for you social networking addicts out there, especially Facebook users who live by status updates and picture tagging.

The Lying Down Game has a group on Facebook of over 77,000 people (currently 77,916, so almost 78k!). So what is it? Basically, it's a whole bunch of people across the world who are photographing themselves lying down. Weird, I know, eh? Which is why it ends up right here amongst all the other quirky game stuff. Some pictures are artistic, others awkward, some just plain, well, lying down.

Join the....movement! Pick a spot, lay down, and take a picture! Yay...or something!

The Ultimate Gamer Wedding Cake (and a few more edible games)

I was trying not to have too much overlap this month and I know I've already featured a couple board game cakes, but this one is what a modern day "true gamer" cake would consist of. Instead of labeling each piece myself, here's a snippet from the bride herself:
As you can see, the bottom layer is my fabulous Xbox 360. On top of that is my PS2 and the next layer is my Xbox. If you look closely enough, you can see the DVD remote sensor in a controller port. Such attention to detail! Topping the entire masterpiece (as it should) is the limited edition ‘Legend of Zelda’ gold GameCube.
Doesn't she look so happy? Not only does she have the wedding glow going on, you can tell having her gaming systems with her just makes her day. :D

Here's a couple more gaming cakes to satisfy your sweet gaming tooth:

Awww!!

This great Tetris masterpiece was given to the Tetris-addict groom by his sister who actually left empty places in the game so he could solve it before cutting!

Shush it, Emily. I know, ok? Lol. :P

Legend of Zelda

If you're still craving more, I found this great Flickr group which is devoted to nothing but gamer cakes. Look around. Maybe you'll find your favorite game there, too.

Get a life, play a game!

WebUrbanist has a great list of 12 video games that will actually help you 'get' a life. Isn't that quite ironic? Usually it's the other way around.

Turns out lots of the games you associate with losers or people who have too much free time on their hands (except when 'you' play them, of course), are games that can be beneficial to you. You'll find Tetris on the list. There's FPS (first person shooter) games like Quake 3 and Killzone 2 for their insane speed that encourages a high level of hand-eye coordination. These are the games you want your brain surgeon playing in his/her spare time!

Roleplaying games like Warcraft and Fallout 3 are there and so is Dance Dance Revolution. Every game mentioned is backed up with things like "logical, scientific thinking and problem-solving abilities" and managing lots of short term goals is in line with Project Managers, for example. There's some other really cool stuff there, too, like talk of how the army has actually incorporated some aspects of a public Army simulator game into their real world training.
