Odd thoughts, quirky ramblings, random pictures, and the latest in quirky finds from across the web, QJ has a little something for everyone.

I'm posting mostly over at Quirky Cookery right now, where I play with my food and teach you to have fun with it, too. Come check me out?

Sprite up the web - Interactive website fun

Photobucket

This is one of those instances where you have to click through to the Spritely site to have any idea what I'm talking about.

See those birds that look like they're flying? It's because they really are. And you can click anywhere on the site to move them. It's strictly HTML and jQuery, so no issues with Flash. If you have no idea what that means, that's okay....just know that it's really simple to download for your own site, and if you want to know all the details, it'll explain them.

Otherwise, go have 20 seconds of fun, playing with those birds. Drag and drop them, watch the background, click a random spot anywhere on the page, whatever. Oh, and if you do nothing else, drag the little slider at the bottom of the banner to see them go super fast in either direction. It makes me giggle, hehe.

This is what it should look like, but it's not coming through after Blogger adjusts the coding automatically. Blah. I can understand a few of the changes it's making, but some of it seems off. Not sure how to correct it either. Hmm.

Facebook Flashback Friday - Musical fun, comics, and turkeys

Here's one more in a series of link dump compilations including all the fun things I've found and shared elsewhere. There are lots more shared
on Quirky Jessi's Facebook, but here's some snippets for you:

  • Hands-only symphony - This is one of those sites where you click on various aspects and it turns music on and off....except, these are all sounds made with hands and lots of great music can be created. It's even better because it's hosted by the American Heart Association with the tag line "Hands can do incredible things, but nothing compares to using them to help save a life."
  • Dancing typography - Be sure to pass this one on to your friends. ;)
  • Time to start eating puppies.
  • Kaleidoscope Painter
  • What should I read next? - Enter the details of a book you like by title, author, or even ISBN, and this site will recommend other books that you might like.
  • Three depressing stories (comics) about turkeys
  • "For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

When Tetris meets Jenga - How long can you play?

Gah, that game! I don't normally play online games like this because I'm really not interested in using my time that way. This one, though, I tried out, and found myself playing repeatedly just to beat my previous attempt because I kept sucking, lol. It's basically Tetris Jenga.....Tetris blocks, but you have to try to build a tower as high as possible with only 99 bricks. It's tougher than you think.

Facebook Flashback Friday - Games, obesity, and singing (with music!) in the rain

Want another in a series of link dump compilations including all the silly things I've found and shared elsewhere? There are lots more shared on Quirky Jessi's Facebook, but here's a bit for you:

  • Disturbing .gif of American obesity issues over the years. If you catch it halfway through the gif animation, just wait it out until it starts over so you can see it all.
  • Another Mario game. This time, hit space bar to switch between a normal Mario game and tetris to add blocks so Mario can climb through new obstacles.
  • Really sketchy bunny pictures. I'm not this creepy, right?
  • Bookcases galore. Lots and lots of them shown here.
  • Drumbrella. This rain drum could either be really cool, or really, really annoying.
  • 8 month old baby hears mommy for the first time after having implants put in.
  • I Love Traffic game - Rush through traffic lights to beat various levels. It gets tougher with more lights to switch on and off.

How many games can you play with an iron?

Again, starting to look a little better, right? Not sure what's going on with the top border not showing, though. I'll get this straightened out eventually. Well, or scrap the idea completely. I'm working on it! Hehe.

So that first link is disguised as a recipe link, but if you check it out, it's actually a woman who uses her old bridesmaid dresses in every day life. As in, she cooks dessert in her formal wear, etc. No need in letting the dresses go to waste!
