Facebook Flashback Friday - Games, obesity, and singing (with music!) in the rain

Want another in a series of link dump compilations including all the silly things I've found and shared elsewhere? There are lots more shared on Quirky Jessi's Facebook, but here's a bit for you:

  • Disturbing .gif of American obesity issues over the years. If you catch it halfway through the gif animation, just wait it out until it starts over so you can see it all.
  • Another Mario game. This time, hit space bar to switch between a normal Mario game and tetris to add blocks so Mario can climb through new obstacles.
  • Really sketchy bunny pictures. I'm not this creepy, right?
  • Bookcases galore. Lots and lots of them shown here.
  • Drumbrella. This rain drum could either be really cool, or really, really annoying.
  • 8 month old baby hears mommy for the first time after having implants put in.
  • I Love Traffic game - Rush through traffic lights to beat various levels. It gets tougher with more lights to switch on and off.

Facebook Flashback Friday - Coffee, theft, and the real Hello Kitty

Here's another in a series of link dump compilations including all the funny things I've found and shared elsewhere. There are lots more shared on Quirky Jessi's Facebook, but here's a nibble:

  • If you know anything about coffee and don't just randomly order at Starbucks, then this one's for you:
    Customer:
    “Where’s your normal coffee?”
    Me:
    “What?”
    Customer:
“I just want a bag of normal coffee, not flavored.
    Where’s your normal coffee?”
    Me:
“Oh, all of the coffees on the left side of the shelf are unflavored.”
    Customer:
“No, they’re all flavored.  They all say different flavors, like  ’Ethiopia’.”
    Me:
“No, those aren’t flavors. All the ones with a country name are just normal, black coffees like you want. The country name is where the coffee was grown.”
    Customer:
“What! There’s no such country as Ethiopia!”
    Me:
“Well, it’s very far away, in Africa.”
    Customer:
“If you say so. So the ones with country names aren’t flavored?”
    Me:
    “Nope.”
    Customer:
“Fine. I’ll take the stuff from France.”
    Me:
    “Coffee doesn’t grow in France…”
    Customer:
    “Yeah, that French Vanilla.”
  • The laziest cat in the world doesn't even care if this seagull steals all its food. Way to go bird! I love how at the end, he goes back for more, tilts his head up at the cat all confused, and then....yeah....you'll see.

  • This isn't quirky, but very, very good advice about how to give support and comfort during a miscarriage. I think it's a must-read, regardless if you ever think you'll be in a situation to use it.
  • Night light bookmark/bedside table light

  • Because sometimes you just want to "ooo and aww" at baby sloths eating.
  • The real Hello Kitty. This one gets a major shoutout because it's become quite the inside joke as a friend of mine likes to say "Hi kitty, hi, hey, hey kitty...." with every wave, and can go on for a long time doing so, lol.
  • Moving puzzle

Oil Spill Perspective - It's not always has major/minor as you think

I'm not going to discuss the whole oil disaster that's going on right now, but of all the links, pictures, parodies, bashes, political debates, etc, etc, etc, that I've seen, here are two serious maps that I thought showed some really good perspective. It's hard to imagine how big the spill is, but these maps show them from the best and worst possible lights.

The first one, is If It Was My Home* which lets you put in your city and it'll overlay a black spot the size/shape of the oil spill. Most likely, it'll appear huge and crazy insane, like how it covers a few entire states in this one:

And the second, is of this map which shows a comparison of the world where previous oil incidents have occurred with their corresponding sizes.

*I'll pretend that it doesn't really bother me that,
grammatically speaking, it should be "If it *were* my home"...
