Weird math calculations

Well not really weird, but interesting at a glance. Check out how these problems end up. Kinda artsy....which is rather un-mathematics-like.

1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111

9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888

1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

Nice symmetry, huh?

Do's and Don'ts of Using Banana Mask

This is a soothing face mask and great if you have bananas around the house.
INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Lemon or orange juice

PREPARATION:

Mix the banana and honey together.
Add a few drops of orange or lemon juice.
Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing.
DO give yourself a homemade facial once a decade. Sure, some people have the money to have it done weekly, and some people have the time to do it themselves monthly.....but for the rest of us, it's kinda nice to set aside 20 minutes once every few years to do something like this.

DON'T do it while kids, husbands, wives, or even blind grandmothers are home. The first 3 are going to laugh at how you look....and the last is going to try to lick your face because it smells delicious.

DO microwave the banana for 45 seconds or so if it isn't ripe. Most of us don't leave bananas lying around until they're technically 'ripe' anyway, and if we do, they're going to have gnats flying around them and we don't want to touch them anyway. Just toss it in the microwave and it'll get all mushy for you.

DON'T think that you'll get by with only half a banana. I don't care how tiny your face is, it's not going to cut it because the stuff is thick and goopy.

DO taste it. Yes, you're getting ready to put it on your face, but this stuff smells like fresh banana nut bread right out of the oven (after all, you just heated the banana, didn't you?). You don't have to tell anyone....just dip a finger in and enjoy the warm bananas and honey.

DON'T add nuts and eat like you would banana nut bread batter. I know it's tempting, but you don't have time to make a full loaf right now.

DO dry your face first. You should give it a quick wash before putting this stuff on, but if you leave your face wet, it's going to slip and slide right off your face.

DON'T move away from the sink immediately after putting it on. Dry face or not, it's going to slip and slide right off your face....

DO use the last 10 minutes (remember, spend the first five over the sink, heh) to do something else, but...

DON'T use that time to paint your fingernails. This is a facial...not a spa treatment. Your face is going to itch at all the wrong times and then there'll be banana goop all over the place....not to mention that your nails will be ruined.

DO reuse the bowl you mixed it in to toss the globs of banana back into. You don't want that stuff stuck in your bathroom sink.

DON'T eat it out of the bowl afterward. Trust me, you're going to be standing there, leaning over the sink, thinking about how you won't want to admit that you ate your facial leftovers in your blog later. Just throw it away and the world will be fine. You can make more later, 'after' you blog and won't have to think about it while blogging.

DO rinse your face afterward. It's gonna be slimy, but refreshing once it's off.

DON'T think that you didn't get any in your hair. You did. It just hasn't dried yet and you can't tell. Your blind grandmother will still be able to tell when she hobbles into the door. Give yourself an extra 5 minutes to find the random chunks of banana in your hair before the family gets home. It's worth it.

DO heed these warnings. I tried it first hand, and minus the nail painting and grandmother sniffing, I experienced it all. It's fun...but only worth doing once a decade. :P

Those Frustrating Rubik's Cubes

Now a creation is made so that they're no longer frustrating!

And it's not just a matter of building a robot to do it. The challenge was apparently in that he only used the "Lego Mindstorms NXT Retail-kit." That, and that it isn't connected to a computer of any sort. Find out all about how he overcame obstacles like the kit only having three motors and other interesting details at his site. He even has directions for how to build your own!

The video above will actually fast forward through the process a ways in, so it's not all in real time. Here's the performance stats, too, which I think are pretty impressive:

  • Scanning the cube: 1 minute

  • Calculating a solution: 20 - 40 seconds

  • Executing the moves: 1 - 5 minutes. Average 4.5 minutes (60 faceturns)

  • Average total time: 6 minutes

More Blogaversary Fun Part II--Visitor Facts

Hey, my blog birthday/anniversary only comes once a year, so I might as well use the time to see how it went this last year. Here are some facts about the people who visited Quirky:

  • Depending on which site I check, there were approximately 4000 'different' people who clicked in. (The highest quote was for 6100 different people, so who knows?)
  • 51% of those were Firefox users. Woohoo Firefox!!
  • 1 visitor used the browser "gzip" which I've never heard of, heh.
  • 9 unlikely visitors were actually still on dial-up. I wasn't even sure if that was still around. I'm sorry for all the graphics that probably lagged up this minority like crazy, lol.
  • 1% of the visits were made by users with Linux, and almost 8% from Mac users. I'll never understand Mac users, but I love the quirky ads they put out and the strange loyalty is almost worth investigation. 4100 visitors were using Windows XP. Yes, that's more than the 4k unique visitors quoted in the first one, but the stats were from different places and I took the lower number for the visitors, lol. There's no way of knowing who to believe!
  • 3 visits were made on a computer running only 8-bit color. Um, which 8 colors are those? :P
  • Over a third of people's resolutions are set for 1024x768, but there were actually 6% who were using 800x600.
  • An overwhelming amount of visitors were from the United States. I'm not feeling much foreign love. :(
Okay, I think I'm done with the stat exploring, hehe.

Knocked up and personalized - Snoopy feels all

Well at least it's looking a bit prettier, huh?

Anywho, Zipster (or Loco Mama in the bit below) is one of the few YouTubers that I follow. He's got some really goofy stuff and while it's not for everybody (this bit included), I thought I should throw him/her your way anyway. This particular one gets a little, uh, gross in a few spots, but it's all about getting knocked up, feet swelling, etc.

And the second? It's about a site that let's you print out a chart to write out the alphabet in your own handwriting. Then, give it back to the site and type away....with your personalized touch! As soon as I get my printer hooked back up, I'm considering actually taking the time to do that. I don't write emails often, outside of responding to people who send stuff here, but I *do* miss the handwritten feel. As much as I'd like to get back to journal writing or writing people letters, I really can't see it happening any time soon, so this would be an interesting compromise, right?

(Oh, and I'll try to make my post titles a little less creepy, ok? :P )

Boo Boo Kisses Bandages

Do plain old skin-colored band-aids just not cut it? Maybe these will do the trick. Here's what the site says about them:

Ouch! That smarts! Treat your minor cuts, scrapes and scratches with the incredible healing power of a designer bandage. And if a fancy bandage isn't enough to dry up your tears, how about a FREE TOY! Each comes in a 3-3/4" tall metal pocket tin and contains a small plastic trinket to help make even the ouchiest owies feel all better in no time. The 2-1/4" x 1" Boo Boo Kisses are cut into the shape of lips and come in four different colors. Fifteen per tin.
Kisses not for you? Maybe bacon and eggs are better....or how about sushi instead? The bandages aren't cheap compared to normal ones you might buy from wal-mart for a buck or two, but for $4.95 a box, they could be a cute novelty item/gift idea or just what your daughter needs when she's scraped her knee and wants unicorns and rainbows. And don't forget, they come with a free trinket toy and a special tin box.

6 Quirky Things about Quirky

Alright, it's been a while since I've done a meme and I don't usually do them at all. This time, though, it's coming from the lovely Lady Language 'and' it's about quirks, so how could I pass it up?

Anywho, here are the rules:

Link to the person that tagged you. Post the rules on your blog. Share six un-important things/habits/quirks about your self. Tag 6 random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. Let these random people know that they are tagged by leaving comments in their blog. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

Before I begin, a while back I did a post about the ABCs of Quirky Jessi. There are tons of little quirks about me and who the person behind the blog is.

So here we go:

1. I can't wink. I've tried a million and one times, I'm sure, and I used to spend time as a kid getting completely frustrated because I couldn't get one eye to do anything without the other doing it, too. It was sad because everyone I knew could wink, so I thought I just wasn't doing something right. Turns out, a lot of people can't wink and it's not something I can force myself to do, so I gave up on it years ago.

2. I can't roll my Rs. This one still bugs me, though! Lol. As a huge cat lover and someone who goes by cat-related names on several sites, portraying a kitty-like persona both online and offline.....it kills me that I can't purr. :( And when I was learning Spanish, my biggest hang-up was that I didn't like knowing I pronounced "perro" (dog) and "pero" (but) exactly the same. *cries* :P

3. I'm just under 5 foot tall....and I *like* it. I have no desire to be tall at all. :)

4. I get really funky food cravings. I thought I talked about them here once before, but I can't seem to find a post about it. The only thing I ran across was one where I mentioned a condensed milk and paprika sauce I accidentally created and couldn't get enough of. I go through cycles where I'll want the same thing for a week straight....like cottage cheese and french dressing, baked potatoes with salsa, avocados straight out of the shell, and those flat popsicles every 5 minutes. (Good thing they're not too bad for me!)

5. I have a very personal relationship with my laptop. I sleep with him....er....we share the same bed at night....

6. My first license plate was Crzy J 1. When I started this blog, I thought crazy was waaayyy too overrated and mainstream because well, apparently everybody thinks they're crazy. I once went through a meowing phase......that's not the same as someone who gets frazzled and calls themselves crazy. So eventually, Quirky was born and I ran with it. I never actually planned to stay as Quirky either, but I wouldn't change it now. :)

And as for tagging, you're all it! Post a link in my comments to yours and I'll stop by to see it. :D

Dr. Seuss battles Shakespeare - Who would win?

This is Epic Rap Battle of History #12

The language is *not* completely clean, so careful if there are ears around that are only PG, but nothing too too major. Besides, it’s worth it to hear someone dressed as Shakespeare rap “ye hoebag, you’re an old white Soulja Boy who has no swag….egads, it’s so sad” :P

And come on, Cat in the Hat rockin’ it out with Thing 1 and Thing 2??

Okay, so it’s a little creepy actually, but still pretty good. Kudos to the rapper starting about 1:15 in…..I love Dr. Seuss, but go go Shakespeare!

When Tetris meets Jenga - How long can you play?

Gah, that game! I don't normally play online games like this because I'm really not interested in using my time that way. This one, though, I tried out, and found myself playing repeatedly just to beat my previous attempt because I kept sucking, lol. It's basically Tetris Jenga.....Tetris blocks, but you have to try to build a tower as high as possible with only 99 bricks. It's tougher than you think.
