I'm posting mostly over at Quirky Cookery right now, where I play with my food and teach you to have fun with it, too. Come check me out?

Decorate your walls with Mario

I want, I want, I want.

I saved the best for last because um, well just because. I would love to have these restickable wall stickers for myself sometime. I'm thinking maybe for an office? Or a kids' play room?

There's a gallery of photos on Think Geek (where you can buy them) and someone even used them in a bathroom. Another has them in a doctor's office (what a cool idea!). I don't really care where others put them because *I* want them. Hopefully this doesn't shock anyone too much after all my Nintendo talk a while back, heh.

They come in Donkey Kong and "new" Super Mario versions, too, but I love the original. <3

Yeah, I want these even more now. :(

Anti-theft lunch bags and moldy sandwiches

Sorta anyway.

I'm sure everybody and their mama has seen this since it was circulating several months ago (and before that), but I'm posting it anyway. For those of you who ever ever dealt with people stealing your lunch from the office refrigerator, this could be for you.

You can buy the baggies (they're reusable) or just use a green marker to your advantage. Might make for good gag gifts, too. Just don't get your sandwich accidentally thrown out!

Why would you knit a pink placenta??

Why would you knit 'any' of these crazy pieces, for that matter?

Whywouldyouknitthat is dedicated to yarn horror stories and oh boy are some of them horendous! The blog seems to be dormant now and it only lasted a couple months, but the pictures that are stored there are timeless. Yikes!

Think a student could get out of doing the live frog (or there's a rat on the site, too) dissection in science class by using this instead?

And yes, that's the pink placenta, knitted by the woman who was dealing with some screwy pregnancy hormones that make women do weird things....like not only have the thought to knit something like that, but the desire and dedication to actually do it!

Netflix Oragami

At the time this was sent to me, I don't know if I wanted to laugh or cry more. I was working in an office where I sorted mail for hundreds of undergraduate college students living in dorms, and guess what the most popular item seemed to be?

Victoria's Secret catalogs...

But after that, it was Netflix dvds, hehe. And Netflix envelopes were just big/small enough that they could be wedged into the boxes at an angle, but it made sorting and delivering quite the pain.

Some of these oragami creations are kind of cute. Did you rent The Little Mermaid? Netflixorgami recommends folding your own Sebastian the Crab to go with it.

Want a tiny little snack tray for popcorn? Use your Netflix envelope to create a box.

Or how about this....V-Day on a budget? Playing too much Frogger from Neave? There are several other excuses and instructions for orgami to create when you're just plain bored.

Get out those 3-D glasses!

At Neave Anaglyph, you can draw your own pictures in 3-D! Zoom in and out to get more or less of the effect or fit more on your page.

And if 3-D isn't your thing (or makes you dizzy, like it does me, hehe), check out their other effects, too. Go blow virtual dandelions seeds all over the place or bounce around some bouncy balls. If you happened to have a mic already installed, use it! You can shout or play some music, and it'll activate some of them (like the dandelions and balls). If you don't, no worries, just click "close" on the option and click around.

Not your thing at all? How about some good ol' fashioned Simon, Tic-Tac-Toe, Space Invaders, or Frogger? Yep, there's a games section, too, in addition to all the wacky special effects options listed up top. There's certainly plenty to play around with (much more than I listed here, but it's all neatly organized, so no fear of getting overwhelmed) and some will take you down Memory Lane more than you expected. :)

If Google were real...

A few things to keep in mind before watching this video:
  1. There is mention of "pron"....*gasp*
  2. This video was done back in 2006, making it a couple years old and somewhat outdated. After all, in the internet world, that's almost antique!
  3. It's "stupid" humor. You're either going to like it or you're going to roll your eyes, groan, and hate me for posting it. Or both.
  4. It's low budget with bad actors.
  5. It's young people....so if young people annoy you or the combination of bad humor and young people annoy you, don't bother. Probably best for those who are in their 20s currently, although others of you will get a kick out of it regardless of age.
  6. The death of dogpile is addressed....so if you're sensitive, consider yourself warned. ;-)
  7. Slight, fake sword violence involved.
  8. If you've been using the internet for less than 6 months and aren't even sure how you landed on my site, this isn't for you, heh.
  9. Blame Dave if you're offended or disappointed in my choice for posting it anyway. :P
  10. Push play at your own discretion....

We are not alone.

When I sat down to write about this picture, I started going off into a little tangent. A little "it saddens me that this or that happens so frequently in the U.S." A little "I wish more of these things and those things would be done."

Really, I would rather stick with how National Geographic puts it. Simple and to the point. We are not alone. And we aren't, so do your part to teach people that, especially the kids, and remember it for yourself. Click the picture to see it at a larger size and read the text at the bottom. Go to MyWonderfulWorld, check out some links, read some quick facts, spread the word.

They aren't "asking you for your money, just your voice."

If only bacon grew on trees....

(Picture from Dave; Joke from axewielderx.....who knew that when I searched for "bacon trees" in hopes of finding the original source for this picture, I'd end up with a joke to go with it? Potentially offensive, but meant in good fun for the picture, hehe.)
Two mexicans are stuck in he desert, wandering aimlessly and close to death. They are close to just lying down and waiting for the inevitable, when all of a sudden…….. “Hey Pepe, do you smell what I smell? Ees bacon I ahm sure of eet.” “Si, Luis eet smells like bacon to meee”.

So with renewed strength, they struggle up the next sand dune, and there, in the distance, is a tree loaded with bacon. There’s raw bacon, dripping with moisture, there’s fried bacon, back bacon, double smoked bacon……every imaginable kind of cured pig meat. “Pepe, Pepe we ees saved! Eet is a Bacon Tree!” “Luis, are you sure ees not a meerage?”We ees in the desert don’t forget.” “Pepe when deed you ever hear of a meerage that smeell like bacon…..ees no meerage, ees a bacon tree”.

And with that ……. Luis races towards the tree. He gets to within 5 feet, with Pepe close behind, when all of a sudden a machine gun opens up and Luis is cut down in his tracks. It is clear he is mortally wounded but, true friend that he is, he manages to warn Pepe with his dying breath.

“Pepe….go back man, you was right….ees not a bacon tree.” “Luis, Luis, mi amigo…….what ees it?” “Pepe……ees not a bacon tree…… ees

ees

ees a HAM BUSH!."
What's with all the bacon lately anyway?

Special Defects -- Wanna walk barefoot in the sand?

Another of Dave's suggested links from long ago, Special Defects doesn't really seem to have much of a "point," but it's fun to explore.

Once it first completely loads (if you're on a slow connection, it might take a few seconds, I'm sure), you'll see lots of sand and when you move your mouse, stuff will start happening.

That's neat on its own, but what you might not notice is in the 'very' center of the screen, there's a tiny white dot. Move your cursor toward the center to slow things down if you're having a hard time finding it. You'll end up scrolling over the dot regardless, so if you're hesitating to click the link, just because your sight isn't the best, don't worry!

Anyway, that pops up a menu, of sorts, and you're given options like "random, burn, attraction, heart," etc. Pick one and it'll take you to a new screen of special effects (and any time you want to go back, there's generally another white dot or you can just refresh the page and it'll take you home). Try out "explosions" and click around on the night sky or "random" for a random (shocking, huh? ) display of various effects.

There are only so many choices and they're not all very interesting at all, but if you've got a few seconds to spare, you might enjoy checking it out

Fractured Fairy Tales -- Leaping Beauty

A blast from the past, here's a quick Fractured Fairy Tales. I don't recall why it came up in conversation, but I didn't remember these shorts at all until I started watching some of the clips that are conveniently up on YouTube.

This particular one is great....I sure hope no one ever casts a spell on me that makes me boring! Oh noes! The anti-quirky!

"Why are you crying?" "Because you're standing on my foot!" Hehe.

Thriller dance Guiness world record

This is old news.....as in, last October kind of old news....but it's in Dave's folder, so here you have it. The video is the main reason I even kept it around....it's quite funny to watch people learning the Thriller dance, no matter when the record was being broken. Apparently, the hardest part isn't the "fancy footwork or hip swivels," but rather that iconic claw swing. Rawr.

You are what you eat....so wash your hands!

I love creative advertising. Anything short of interesting and it's not even going to catch my attention, much less hold it long enough to know what the ad is trying to sell me.

For these, the idea is that you "are what you eat." So if you touch the hamster, you're eating all those germs, too (so use Lifebuoy soap, of course! hehe). There's another fish-related picture and more talk about Lifebuoy here.

Power your iPod with vodka

I debated not posting this one, too, because it's alcohol-related and I like to keep QJ PG-13, but meh, for iPod addicts who will do anything to keep it running, this is worth a shot.

Buy "too many duty-free vodkas from the airport" or been gifted vodka, but you don't drink? Need a "legit" excuse for being in your parents liquor cabinet? Give up alcohol altogether, but don't want your current supply to go to waste? Might as well use it for electricty!

Find out how it works by checking out the article on Cnet.

Kidorable umbrellas -- Oh so precious!

Kidorables....what better word to use for adorable children's umbrellas?

The Umbrella Shop has tons of really awesome umbrellas, but it's these quirky child-size ones that caught my attention. Located in Vancouver, CA, there's a $15 charge for shipping for those in the US, but their umbrellas are reasonably priced in the first place, so well worth it....especially if you order more than one and get their 10-30% off discounts.

Hmm, I wonder if I could pass by as small enough to get one of these for myself. Probably better not to even think about that, as I don't know which one I'd choose! Purple elephants, eye-popping frogs and lady bugs...and even though pink isn't my color, that pink kitten in the lower right is almost too cute to pass up. :P

(Another one not from Dave, but because we're right smack dab in the middle of rainy Spring season, I didn't want to wait to post this until next month)

Bible in a minute

I'm not sure I've ever posted anything here that's religion-related (at least not to this extent...the Laughing Yogi is about as spiritual as I've touched, I think). It's just not something I tend to cover here, but this video is funny whether you're religious or not, hehe.

Quirky Jessi Site Updates

(Obviously, this isn't something Dave sent me....I think you'll survive anyway)

Yep, it's one of those posts. The kind where I tell you what I've changed around here and pretend that you might actually care....except this time, there are a few changes you're going to like.

First up, we have a completely new layout. If you haven't been to the main site lately because you're viewing from a reader, you're definitely going to want to check it out. There's still some tweaking to be done, but I love how it's looking.

With that comes some slightly different navigation, as well. You should be able to find everything you need up top....how to subscribe (including email), search, where to find me outside of QJ, and a few new features. Even Quirky Lurky is still there.

You'll also see that I've started a Quirky Tumblr. One of the reasons I get behind with posting is that I have 'so' much I want to post, but sometimes I end up with things that don't really need a full post to describe or it's just a picture or two that I hang on to until the appropriate topic comes up. With Tumblr, you'll get to see many of those silly pictures or random links that don't need any explanation.

If you visit QJ itself, there's a widget in the sidebar that displays thumbnails of the most recent pictures, too. I'm still looking for a better format for that, but for now, it gets the job done and you can click through to the Tumblr site for the larger pictures. Once over there, you can comment on individual posts or subscribe to the RSS feed, just as you would here.

Right above that, you'll also notice a new Top Commenters area. Once upon a time, I had a CommentLuv-like widget, but it didn't work the way I wanted it to, so I dropped it. Now it's back and right near the top so if you're one of the top commenters of the last 100 comments, viewers are going to see your link almost immediately. I love when you guys comment, so I want you to get some traffic out of it, too.

Alright, for now I think that's about it. Let me know if there's anything not working the way you think it should or if you'd like me to add anything else.

Your forgotten mistakes turned into art

There are many museum pieces that are the result of human error: a serendipitous
carelessness, sleepiness or absentmindedness of their contributors. But
there are others which, there is reason to believe, became exhibits through
the carelessness, sleepiness or absentmindedness of the food itself.
Or were they trying to send a message?

Man, that was deep, huh?

Now guess what the site is about. It's the Burnt Food Museum.

What I want to know is, why oh why, was this lemon even in a position to be burnt to such a crisp? And I thought it was a grapefruit at first, oops.

Um, I can't even be entirely sure what that is. Most of the pictures tell exactly what the foods were originally, but this one didn't. Looks kind of like a pig head...or a croc....but then the picture name said "turkey_crispycritter." Oh, ok. Yeah, I totally see a turkey in there....uh huh. Once upon a time, maybe...

Now you, too, can experience the Titanic!

Measuring 33 feet in height and 50 feet in length, this awesome slide captures the feeling of the real giant. Adding to the realism of this ride are the famed triple screw propellers and rudder. One could almost believe the ship is sinking! Who will survive the slide down? This dual slide captures all the excitement of the famed ocean liner on its maiden voyage.
Wait, what? Are you serious? Apparently! Party USA offers the Titanic Adventure Slide as part of its huge collection of party inflatables. Just what I always wanted....to jump around and slide down a blow-up pseudo-Titanic, capturing "all the excitement" of the famous ship. I wonder if they had this much fun when it was sinking...

There other slides and blowup adventure courses look really cool, though. The Giant Twister Board could be fun and the same with the Micro-Reality Racing....but I'm sure nothing can be reliving the Titanic in big, puffy, bouncy, blow-up form. Ahh, the memories...

April is all about Dave

In honor of these months:

National STD Month
National Pecan Month
Straw Hat Month
National Kite Month
Holy Humor Month
Informed Women Month
International Twit Award Month
And many, many more "themed" month acknowledgments...

This is becoming "Dave Month" as well (I'd say National, but the only way I can get by with that is to clarify I mean the Quirky *World* of Jessi). Way back last September when my blogging folders were somewhat organized, I had a Dave folder where I threw some of the links Dave would send me. I had every intention of blogging those things relatively soon, but here it is, a few months later and I'm just now getting around to it.

And many of these links I never would've been able to tell you that he sent them to me, but my handy dandy blog folder says so, hehe. Dave has sent me hundreds of links over time, I'm sure, but the ones I show this month are just going to be ones I had tucked away with his name on them (and maybe anything he happens to send me this month that I deem quirky-worthy, hehe).

No April's Fools here either. Quirky doesn't mean clever at coming up with tricks to play on you guys, lol.
